Underground Coal Miner
Hourly Position
Requirements: Must hold a Kentucky Experienced Miner Certification with up to date retraining.
Reports to : Section Foreman
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Employees will be assigned a particular job function based on total mining experience, certifications possessed, and skill level as well as general preference when allowable. Job functions may range from underground equipment operator (continuous miner, roof bolter, shuttle car, scoop, supply tractor, grader, etc.), electrician, general inside labor, examiner, hourly foreman, move crew, maintenance, etc. The employee will be responsible for performing the job duties associated with their assigned function as directed by their immediate supervisor and as outlined in the Excel Mining job standards booklet. Employees are expected to follow all health and safety standards required by both state and federal law as well as those required by Excel Mining, LLC.
2. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast paced, physically demanding work environment.
3. Candidates must be able to bend, squat, move freely and without restriction, and be on their feet for long periods of time in order to effectively perform their job duties.
4. Candidate will frequently be required to lift objects that weigh in excess of 50 lb.
5. Candidates will be responsible for workplace and equipment safety
6. Maintain strict compliance with all Federal and state mining regulations as well as adhering to all company safety standards.
7. Other duties may be required as assigned by the Section Foreman or the Mine Foreman.
Work Objectives : Perform job duties and functions associated with the occupation in which you are assigned both safely and efficiently. Follow all state and federal mining regulations as well as company policies and standards. Perform tasks as directed by your immediate supervisor.
Work Schedule: Production crews typically work a five (5) day per week schedule with one (1) 6 day week scheduled each month. Crew members may be asked to work additional Saturdays depending on the needs of the mine. Production crews rotate between day shift and second shift every other week. Shift hours vary depending on the assigned unit, crew, and shift, however typical day shift production begins at 6:30 A.M. and ends at 4:30 P.M. Second shift typically begins at 2:30 and ends at 12:30. Overtime may be required.
Third shift crews do not work a rotation shift and typically work 5-6 days each week depending on the needs of the mine. Exact shift starting and ending times vary depending on occupation but typically fall between the hours of 10:30 PM and 9:00 AM.
Weekend warrior crews work a three day work week (Friday through Sunday) on a 12 hour shift schedule. Shifts begin and end at 6 AM and 6 PM. Weekend warrior crews work a total of 36 hours but are paid the equivalent of working 48 hours due to pay differentials associated with through the weekend particularly for that crew.
Position Summary: Employee must have experience in an underground coal mine. Must be able to lift 50 to 100 pounds regularly. Operate equipment and use various hand tools including hammers, knives, etc. as required. Work closely with others in a team effort.
