We are currently seeking a Food Safety Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team, based in our Bowling Green, OH location.

Responsible for following and conducting robust Food Safety & Quality systems and programs; audits and checks, the FSQA Specialist will report to the FSQA Manager and work with them as a team to ensure NuProduce Solutions is meeting or exceeding internal standards, customer’s expectation and government compliance requirements.


Position: Full-Time, Permanent

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10am-6pm with flexibility for early pre-op inspections. (Days and hours are subject to change; may include weekends)

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, maintains and communicates policies, procedures and work instructions for food safety activities performed in all wholesale and retail Stores.

  • Collaborates with the Store Learning and Development Team and/or Food Safety and Quality Analyst to establish and execute food safety training and culture materials.

  • Conducts internal food safety assessments and on-site visits, as needed, in collaboration with local and regional leadership team member(s), to offer support in establishing and maintaining compliance to regulatory, customer, and internal food safety expectations.

  • Supports Stores during food safety and quality investigations that may result from regulatory visits, process breakdowns,

  • etc. Assists with development of appropriate corrective action plans, and drives initiation of needed policy, procedure and work instruction changes as a result.

  • Utilizes food safety reporting and KPIs to drive continued process improvement and compliance.

  • Owns the Store Supplier Compliance Program; direct store deliveries, suppliers for in-Store processed products.

  • Supports the onboarding of new Stores to related food safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Assists Store Food Safety Leadership in the review and assessment of new regulations to understand impact and establish necessary compliance plans.

  • Participates as a member of the Store Food Safety Counsel.

  • Assists with development of departmental goals that support current and growing business needs and continued development of key processes. Monitors goal progress and assists with driving necessary attention to ensure goals are met within defined timelines.

  • Acts as a Recall Coordinator, on a rotating basis, executing product recalls both during and after business hours and on weekends. This includes managing the entire recall process, from product isolation to customer communication, in addition to any follow-up communication with regulatory agencies.

  • Develops, maintains, enhances and communicates job-related Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Policies and Job Aids.

  • Drives the food safety culture within GFS, adhering to, and displaying, the organization's beliefs and behaviors related to food safety, quality and hygiene.

  • Adheres to mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of retail and/or wholesale food quality and safety operations is a benefit.

    • Knowledge of governmental regulations (FDA, USDA) as applied to quality assurance/food safety.

    • Must be able to navigate through federal and state/local regulations.

    • Must be detail-oriented and display good project management and organizational skills.

    • Must be able to prioritize, and schedule accordingly, on your own multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be comfortable with swift change in daily routine to address urgent matters.

    • Must possess and display excellent written and verbal communications skills.

    • Must be able to work collaboratively with a variety of teams / departments and individuals, including possessing the willingness to engage with others and be challenged.

    • Must have the ability to listen, interpret, and determine appropriate direction based on general rules, processes, and feedback from others.

    • Must possess and display good analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and strategic thinking skills.

    • Bachelor Degree or equivalent

      Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Mathematics or related scientific field.
