New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 55 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $140M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 376 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.

Job Description
The Hospital Performance Strategist is responsible for advancing hospital-based organ and tissue donation outcomes through data-driven process improvement initiatives. The Hospital Performance Strategist utilizes hospital performance data, clinical observations, and root cause analyses to design and support improvement initiatives aligned with regulatory and best practice standards to assess performance, identify barriers to donation, and implement strategies that improve donation-related metrics, including referral process and referral timeliness and authorization rates. The Hospital Performance Strategist works in collaboration with the Education and Development department to create and implement hospital education to support these initiatives.
FOCUS AREAS/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
- Analyze hospital-specific donation performance data to identify trends in referral, authorization, and conversion metrics.
- Conduct case reviews and present summary and opportunities at ODS Leadership Authorization Meeting.
- Serve as liaison to hospital Quality Departments to identify and establish internal process improvement initiatives and compliance with regulatory requirements.
DATA REPORTING
- Work with Hospital Donation Strategist to generate and effectively communicate hospital-specific performance outcomes, reports, and data presentations to hospital partners.
- Work with Hospital Donation Strategist to create data slides for Organ Donation Advisory Committee meetings.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT INTIATIVES
- Utilizing individual and DSA-wide hospital metrics, develop and implement action plans to optimize referral processes, authorization conversations, and timely interventions to optimize donation outcomes.
- Identify hospital clinical resource and education needs; work collaboratively with Education and Development department as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for creation of educational materials, resources and programs.
- Introduce new hospital education resources to HDS team and set expectations for use.
- Identify opportunities and gaps in hospital practice and performance; work collaboratively with HD Leadership and Education and Development department to establish appropriate training plans.
- Attend NEDS Performance Improvement Committee (PIC) and ODS Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) committee meetings.
HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT
- Assume responsibility as Hospital Donation Strategist for hospital assignments as assigned.
- Conduct in-person or phone rounds with hospital staff to identify potential donors and clear plan for follow up/next steps.
- Analyze and interpret information within a patient medical record for purposes of Death Record Review. May be tasked with documenting a basic chart review on a referral made to NEDS or received during standard rounding in hospitals.
- Provide on-site response to referrals and cases as needed to support ODS Optimization team members. This may include documenting and communicating essential information to both hospital partners and essential NEDS staff.
- Facilitate in-services and other education sessions.
- Conduct After Action Review as needed.
STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Work collaboratively with the Education and Development department to develop professional development education, including Skills Days.
EXTERNAL EDUCATION
- Work collaboratively with HDS Leadership and Education and Development department to plan, advertise, and facilitate in-person education programs and webinars for hospital partners and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical, hospital liaison, or process improvement role in a healthcare setting.
KNOWELEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- OPO Knowledge: Strong understanding of organ/tissue donation practices and related regulatory standards (CMS, AOPO, Joint Commission).
- Data Analysis : Ability to collect, analyze, and present data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships among variables. Familiarity with data analysis, dashboards and reporting tools.
- Process Improvement: Experience with performance improvement methodologies.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to critically think, solve problems, and work productively both independently and as a team participant. Skilled in active listening and proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Clinical Skills : Knowledge of relevant medical terminology and pathology, ability to translate complex medical information into easily understandable language for families and staff to understand.
- Project Management Skills : Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and utilize time-management skills to meet deadlines.
- Computer & Application Literacy : Proficiency Microsoft 365 suite, Learning Management Systems, TrueNorth, Slack as well as ability to navigate the internet.
- Team Building: Proven ability to collaborate with, work in and lead teams that produce results.
- Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrates the ability to understand, use and manage emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and diffuse conflict.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Required to travel by personal vehicle to meet the duties and responsibilities of this position. Must maintain the requirements of an “eligible driver” including maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy.
