Job Description

The Department of Classics at New York University invites applications for a scholar in Greek History at the rank of Faculty Fellow, to begin September 1, 2025, pending final administrative and budgetary approval.  This position is for one year, but is potentially renewable for up to three years in total.

Pay Transparency Statement. In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate?s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. no earlier than five years before the date of appointment. The department has a strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching, and we expect the successful candidate to be able to contribute on both fronts.  The teaching load is 1-2: the courses to be taught will include a large introductory-level lecture course on the history of Greece in the Hellenistic period.  An ability to teach courses on ancient political thought and other periods of Greek history will also be an advantage.

The application letter should  contain (i) an account of your teaching philosophy, including ways in which you would seek to attract and support the broadest range of students, and (ii) a description of your research.
