This role is responsible for performing and documenting laboratory applied science experimentation in the field of radioactive and hazardous material processing, stabilization, and characterization to enable nuclear materials processing, site cleanup, and waste disposition across the DOE complex.

Responsibilities

The engineer will develop testing protocols and perform laboratory scale testing using both simulated and radioactive waste tank matrices primarily in support of DOE-EM directives. Work scope may include process support of operating facilities at SRS and throughout the DOE complex to include designing, scaling, and assessing mixing and transport systems consisting of liquid or liquid/solids that are Newtonian and non-Newtonian, expansion of scientific boundaries in nuclear knowledge and processes, optimization, integration, and/or process troubleshooting of current site or DOE-complex processes, nuclear material disposition experimentation, and development of reclamation processes.

Successful candidates will:
  • Have proficiency in one or more of the following relevant technical skillsets:
  • Experience with designing/scaling/assessing mixing and transport systems
  • Rheological background in measuring Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids containing solids
  • Think critically, analyze data, and integrate these skills into effective experimental design, execution, and reporting.
  • Have the ability to scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions.
  • Develop partnerships with internal team members and external partners of different backgrounds.
  • Effectively communicate (verbal & written) technical results and interface with customers.
