- This position is within our Operations Planning & Performance department and focused on two key Corporate Strategic Objectives for our business: doubling down on operational excellence and and renewing our focus on the customer.
- The team leads a variety of aspects of Operational Strategy and Reporting efforts at American Airlines. It serves as a resource for analytical needs throughout the Operational division, partnering with Sr leaders, front line leaders, Operational business units to get to root cause analysis as quickly and effectively as possible.
What you'll do
- Mine, model, analyze and evaluate operational data to identify root cause factors impacting operational reliability
- Create, Review, and Communicate Operational Goals to the leaders
- Build Business Intelligence reports to guide leadership to improve the operation
- Proactively monitor and track operational performance metrics, and provide regular updates for senior leaders on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual cadences
- Provide competitive gap analysis to identify key performance drivers and opportunities to close the gap to our competition
- Provide periodic updates on drivers of operational issues and progress made with associated initiatives, to the operating departments and Sr. leaders
- Assist in hypothesis development for root cause analysis related to reliability performance
- Work collaboratively with various cross-functional teams including hubs, regions and functional group (maintenance, customer experience, cargo, etc.) leadership to develop and implement initiatives that improve operational performance
- Develop presentations and present findings with recommendations to the operating groups and senior management
- Interact with other departments including Network Planning, Maintenance, Crew, and IOC
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline including Operation Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or Business Analytics with prior work experience
- 3 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline including Operation Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or Business Analytics
- 4 years of airline experience using data analysis and quantitative modeling techniques to answer business questions and to assess the added value of recommendations
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Motivated individual with strong passion for airline operations
- Ability to structure an analysis from scratch with minimal guidance
- Demonstrated experience in taking complex analysis and turning them into actionable insights
- Flexibility in adapting to new ideas, approaches and in taking feedback from business partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization as well as external contacts
- Ability to persevere through challenges, shows resourcefulness to get to end goal
- Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines
- Adaptable, comfortable with unstructured work and occasional shifting priorities
- Works well as a team and knows when/how to ask for help
- Demonstrated experience in presenting findings to Sr. leaders with a variety of backgrounds
- Knowledge of data processing/manipulation languages such SQL, R, Python in large database environments
- Familiarity with the airline operations metrics and related operational procedures/processes
- Occasional Travel required (up to ~5% of the time)
