Job Description

Role Overview

We're expanding the Medical Affairs Scientific Services team with senior medical writers who can also function as content leads. You'll bring deep therapeutic expertise (priority: hematology/oncology, plus non-malignant heme and rare diseases) and own end-to-end content development across digital, live virtual, and in-person HCP education. This is medical writing plus: you'll synthesize data into compelling educational narratives, apply adult learning principles, guide slide/story structure, collaborate with faculty KOLs, and partner closely with internal producers, editors, and design.

You'll thrive here if you're decisive, organized, unflappable under deadlines (“Metscape fast”), and comfortable operating with startup-style agility inside a large, established organization.

You'll shape meaningful medical education that helps HCPs deliver better patient outcomes—while partnering with a team that blends scientific rigor with creative, learner-first design. If you're ready to lead content in high-impact therapeutic areas and enjoy the momentum of a team that moves quickly, we'd like to meet you.

Scope and Duration
Scope: 75 hours/month
Duration: Initial 6-month term, ideal candidates may continue long-term

What You'll Do

Medical Writing & Content Development

  • Create high-quality, accurate scientific content for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other HCPs.
  • Build PowerPoint decks, speaker notes, text modules, and related assets for webinars, podcasts, symposium highlights, and multiformat programs.
  • Transform long slide decks (e.g., conference symposia) into concise, 10–15-slide stories with clear objectives and takeaways.
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical guidelines, drugs/devices, pipelines, and key literature in assigned disease areas.
  • Draft assessment/survey/poll questions; analyze outcomes to generate insights and succinct performance readouts.

Instructional Design & Medical Education

  • Serve as a consultative partner to internal teams and clients to design programs that are clinically sound, instructionally effective, and compliant.
  • Apply adult learning theory to structure content flow, interactivity, and reinforcement.
  • Translate complex data into accessible visuals (e.g., recommend chart types over dense tables); direct designers on data display and permissions workarounds when appropriate.

Faculty & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Identify and engage thought leaders; prepare outlines, agendas, and talking points; ask the right scientific questions; and ensure scientific rigor.
  • Align content to program goals and client expectations; diplomatically negotiate scope (e.g., realistic slide counts for allotted time).
  • Work cross-functionally to uphold quality, timelines, and client satisfaction; track productivity and deliverables.

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead content work streams from kickoff through delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Hit aggressive timelines, pivot quickly, and manage changing inputs (e.g., evolving conference data, faculty availability).
  • Uphold documentation standards, references, and version control across shared systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years developing HCP education for digital/live/hybrid formats at a med ed/med comms or Medical Affairs organization.
  • 3–5+ years hands-on medical writing/content development with slide-led programming.
  • Established expertise in hematology/oncology (prostate cancer a plus); non-malignant hematology and rare diseases highly valued.
  • Proven ability to lead faculty conversations and make story/structure recommendations rooted in adult learning.
  • Exceptional written English and verbal communication; meticulous referencing and editorial standards.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills; strong command of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Degree: Advanced degree preferred (MD, PhD, PharmD, RN/NP/PA); BS in life/clinical sciences with significant relevant experience considered.
  • Workstyle: Self-directed, resourceful, deadline-driven; comfortable asking questions early and often.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Prior Medical Affairs experience and familiarity with common MA deliverable types.
  • Experience with symposium highlights workflows and rapid distillation of conference content.
  • Tooling familiarity: Workfront (PM), SharePoint/Google Drive, Box; literature tools (ReadCube/EndNote); data viz/reporting (e.g., Tableau).
  • Comfort working in cloud-based, remote environments and shared networks.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools for research/outline support (with strong human QA).
  • Multilingual capabilities.

Operating Model & Expectations

Culture: Fast-paced, solutions-oriented, and highly collaborative. We value candid communication, rapid iteration, and ownership.
