Job Description Full-time Research Assistant II position responsible for the comprehensive operational execution of a two-year, ambidirectional retrospective/prospective observational study focusing on the natural history and complications of Glycogen Storage Disease Type Ia (GSDIa) in patients treated at Connecticut Children's. The RA II will lead the intensive data collection phase (Year 1), which involves managing a large legacy data set (up to 200 patients with 10-15 years of retrospective data), while simultaneously managing a small prospective cohort (20 patients). This role requires expertise in patient interaction, complex medical record abstraction, and database management, with a high degree of autonomy and attention to detail.
Under limited supervision, assists higher level research personnel by performing a range of routine activities including data collection, data entry, statistical analysis, preparation of reports and presentations, library searches, and summarizing data for assigned research project(s). Functions as entry-level research professional learning research protocols and procedures. Ensures data integrity, quality control and compliance with all protocols associated with assigned project(s). Collaborates with Principal Investigator, and other members of assigned research projects to achieve project objectives. Reports to Research Manager. Under general supervision, the RA will assist higher level research personnel by performing a range of support tasks for assigned clinical and/or non-clinical activities associated with conducting research for assigned research project(s). Responsibilities - Assist Principal Investigators and senior researchers in the execution of various research studies and experiments.
- Collect, organize, and manage research data accurately and systematically, utilizing appropriate software and tools. Conduct basic statistical analyses on collected data to identify trends and patterns.
- Prepare and organize research materials, protocols, and documentation for studies. Contribute to the drafting and editing of research reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
- Maintain meticulous records and documentation throughout the research process, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of all collected and managed data, adhering strictly to research protocols and ethical guidelines.
- Assist with participant recruitment, screening, and scheduling as needed, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- May assist in the training and mentorship of junior research staff, students, or volunteers.
- Actively participate in team meetings, contributing to discussions and fostering a collaborative research environment.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience Required: - Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Statistics, etc.)
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant research experience
Education and/or Experience Preferred: - Education: Master's degree in a relevant field
License and/or Certification Required: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge:
- Basic research protocols, principles and procedures;
- Aspects of research studies such as screening, interviewing, completing study forms & reports;
- Basic knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications and computer data management.
Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated proficiency in Windows environment; intermediate to advanced level word processing and
spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Word & Excel); and intermediate to advanced skills developing presentations
(Microsoft PowerPoint); basic to intermediate skills in database design and database management (Microsoft
Access); basic to intermediate skills in statistical analysis (SPSS), or equivalent

- Attend to detail, problem solve, be organized and work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities
