Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)

Freedom Support Services is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Prescriber (PNP). We are looking for a passionate person who fits our company culture, shares the same philosophy on integrative health/wellness, and has proven experience in mental health management plans. We are on the search for someone with a desire to be a part of a team environment, and be a collaborative leader in the mental health space.
This is a fully remote position in the tele-health workspace. Freedom Support Services will support getting in front of insurance panels when taking this position. The Practitioner position can manage their own books, if you are targeting 15 billable working hours minimum per week.

Responsibilities:

  1.   Assessment : Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including obtaining a thorough medical history, mental status examination, and assessment of psychosocial factors contributing to the patient's condition.
  2. Diagnosis : Formulate differential diagnoses based on assessment findings and diagnostic criteria outlined in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).
  3. Treatment Planning : Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, focusing on evidence-based interventions such as psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and other modalities as appropriate.
  4. Medication Management : Prescribe psychotropic medications, monitor their efficacy and side effects, and adjust dosages as needed to optimize treatment outcomes.
  5. Psychotherapy : Provide psychotherapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), supportive therapy, and other modalities tailored to the patient's needs.
  6. Crisis Intervention : Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and acute psychotic episodes, while implementing appropriate safety measures and coordinating with emergency services as necessary.
  7. Collaboration and Consultation : Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive care coordination and continuity of services.
  8. Patient Education : Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication adherence, coping strategies, and community resources available for ongoing support.
  9. Advocacy : Advocate for patients' rights and access to mental health services, while addressing stigma associated with psychiatric disorders and promoting awareness of mental health issues within the community.
  10. Documentation and Record-keeping : Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and communication with other healthcare providers, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  11. Continuing Education : Stay current with advancements in psychiatric nursing practice through participation in professional development activities, continuing education programs, and ongoing self-assessment of clinical competencies.
  12. Quality Improvement : Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of mental health services, promoting patient safety, and achieving optimal outcomes for individuals with psychiatric disorders.

Overall, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners play a crucial role in addressing the complex needs of individuals with mental health conditions, providing compassionate care, and promoting recovery and well-being within a collaborative healthcare environment .

Requirements:
  • Minimum 1+ years of full-time experience as a PNP; 3+ years of full-time experience as a PNP strongly preferred
  • Fully Licensed in the State of Virginia
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Related Field
  • Clinical Experience: knowledge and clinical experience with teens, or adults with mental health issues (trauma, anxiety, traditional issues, parenting, depression, mood disorders, etc.)
  • Certifications for the MSN or DNP Programs
  • State Licensure
  • Professional Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, critical thinking, and ability to work collaboratively with other health care professionals.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills to manage case load, appointments, and follow up
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven ability to identify challenges and provide effective solutions.
  • Must have knowledge of strategies for examining, applying and evaluating cognitive/behavioral therapy concepts. Additional skills required include thorough knowledge of the clinical aspects of the mental health field.
Preferred Requirements:
  • 3+ years of PNP work in a private practice setting and/or collaboration with mental health counselors 
  • A collaborating physician willing to work with you

Pay: DOE, Hourly rate starts at $60/hour
