Job Description
Our client, a prestigious global law firm, is seeking a Practice Area Management Senior Coordinator to support leadership across the GFM, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Corporate practices. This role is ideal for a driven, operations-minded professional—someone who dreams of becoming a COO one day—and offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of financial performance, strategy, and talent management. Candidates should have several years of experience in practice management or financial analysis, preferably within a law firm or Big 4 environment, and bring strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of three days per week in the office, offering the chance to contribute to the strategic direction of a world-class legal team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supports the team on regional practice management initiatives, working closely with relevant department representatives as needed, such as Finance, Human Resources, Billing & Collections, Business Development, etc.
- Supports activities related to the firm's focus on commercial discipline, for example, those related to billing and collections issues, timely time entry and compliance with risk and control obligations
- Supports the team in the review of expenses and reimbursements, monitoring for policy adherence, and managing the flow of approvals as required
- Assists with the administration of practice area group meetings and events, contributing to the preparation of agendas, materials, minutes and progressing actions as directed by the team
- Helps to draft various internal communications for the practice and subgroups and/or responds to ad hoc queries that may arise during the course of business
- Assists in the management of working capital positions and lockup (WIP & Debt) to promote financial health and best practices as well as commercial discipline within practice areas
- Prepares financial analysis for various initiatives for the Practice Area Management and Regional Practice Area Leaders, as needed; where appropriate, cascades or supplies this information directly to key stakeholders
- Works with the HR/Professional Development team on talent-related matters, such as assisting with the associates' appraisal processes, training curriculum and pipeline management (recruitment, promotion, etc.); where appropriate, this would also extend to partner and counsel populations
- Works with the Legal Project Managers, Service Delivery Centers and Pricing teams to support the attorneys and their client work
- Collaborates with other practice area management professionals on special projects as directed; where appropriate, engages with associates, counsel, and/or partners in support of this work
- Proactively identifies and solves problems with end-to-end execution; maintains and organizes data and files
- Assists in coordinating the deployment of practice area resources, including legal technology tools, and case management systems, to encourage integration
- Works directly with the Conflicts and Matter Opening Teams to track and report on new matters being opened/created for partner teams, including triaging any issues and overseeing the end-to-end opening of the matter
- Provides direct support to the team as directed, as it relates to defining and delivering the regional strategy for GFM, L&DR and Corporate, including strategic change projects, promoting financial awareness and education, and facilitating lateral recruitment
REQUIREMENTS:- Some practice management or financial analysis experience in a law firm, professional or financial services firm and/or corporate environment
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in Business Management, Accounting, Finance or Economics is preferred
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail
- Strong client service and interpersonal skills
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and growing environment. Self-starter with a proactive demeanor
- Ability to work under pressure and able to multi-task, prioritize competing demands
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong technical proficiency in various software including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to adhere and comply with the Firm's Agile Working Policy which requires employees to work from the office two or three days each calendar week
- Ability to work outside core business hours as needed
- Must be independently and legally authorized to work in the United States
Expected salary for this role is $90,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
