Job Title: Peer Support Specialist
Department: Clinical Outpatient – Assertive Community Treatment
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor
Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt
Location: Community-based / Field Work
Work Hours: 8am-4:30pm
We’re looking for a Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. In this role, you'll use your own experience with mental health or substance use recovery to support others on their journey. You’ll provide encouragement, share resources, lead support groups, and help individuals develop skills to thrive in the community. You’ll also serve as a key voice in promoting recovery-oriented values within the team.
Use personal recovery experience to support and inspire others
Assist individuals in navigating daily life and community resources
Lead peer support groups and share coping strategies
Support people in making healthy choices and building social connections
Collaborate with staff and provide input based on lived experience
Help individuals access services like healthcare, social support, and housing
Assist with crisis support and participate in on-call rotation
Perform light facility support tasks (e.g., serving meals, tracking vital signs)
Certified Peer Support Specialist (required)
High School Diploma or GED
At least 2 years of experience in healthcare or behavioral health preferred
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Comfort with sharing your recovery story in a supportive and appropriate way
Basic computer skills and ability to document work electronically
Valid NC or SC Driver’s License
Compassionate, resilient, and recovery-oriented
A strong role model for wellness and healthy relationships
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Willing to support clients in the community and respond to crisis situations
