General Summary:
The Library Assistant, working under the Library Director, provides support for library
operations, including, but not limited to: greeting and assisting patrons; monitoring usage of library facilities; performing clerical tasks; and managing the checking out / checking in and shelving of library materials. The Assistant may also be asked to complete other duties that support library programming and activities as needed. This is a part time position, up to 20hours per week.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain positive working relationships with SKC employees, students, and community members.
Monitor public access computer use and explain library policies regarding appropriate use as needed
Answer patrons’ questions and assist with identifying and locating library materials
Assist patrons with use of copier, printer, and other equipment
Assist with checking out / in, renewing, and shelving library materials
Maintain patrons’ records, register new patrons, and maintain record confidentiality
Answer incoming phone calls
Monitor and replenish library/office supplies
Process new library materials
Assist with creation and maintenance of thematic educational, cultural, and seasonal displays
Assist with maintaining a clean, welcoming environment
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to design and create educational, cultural and seasonal displays relevant to the library, college, and local community
Demonstrated ability to complete basic computer tasks, such as emailing; Ability to use Microsoft Word Suite and Publisher preferred
Experience working in a library or office setting
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; able to work successfully with library patrons, including students, faculty, tribal members and all ages of children
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in an efficient and timely manner
Ability to work independently and with library staff to accomplish library goals and missions
