Job Description

The Winchester Recreation Department is hiring Lead Instructor/Supervisors for Junior Basketball Leagues.

Do you love basketball and enjoy teaching others?
The Winchester Recreation Department is looking for 2 energetic and knowledgeable Lead Instructor/Supervisors to oversee our Junior Basketball League for PreK–2nd grade players. There is a position for the girls’ leagues and a position for the boys’ leagues.

Season: November 8, 2025 – February 28, 2026

Pay: $30–$40 per hour (based on experience)

Boys’ Schedule: Saturdays, 7:30am-4:00pm with some prep or coordination hours as needed Girls Schedule: Saturdays, 7:30am-2:00pm with some prep or coordination hours as needed

  • Times are subject to change based on number of teams/schedule

Who: Adults (18+) with coaching or instructional experience

This position plays a key leadership role in shaping our youngest athletes’ first experience with basketball. You wi

ll guide and mentor parent volunteer coaches, lead age-appropriate skill sessions, and supervise one of our program sites to ensure a positive and well-run environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead instructional sessions and demonstrate skill-building drills
  • Train and support parent volunteer coaches
  • Oversee league play and maintain a fun, inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensure consistency and safety across all teams and sessions
  • Serve as an on-site supervisor and resource for families and staff

You’d Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Have a strong background in basketball fundamentals and youth coaching
  • Communicate clearly and lead with patience and enthusiasm
  • Enjoy mentoring others and building community through sports
  • Are reliable, organized, and comfortable supervising a busy gym
  • Are 18+ with at least 1–2 years of coaching or supervisory experience

Preferred (but not required):

  • Degree or coursework in physical education, sports management, or a related field
