Director of Emergency Services

Position Overview:

The Director of Emergency Services is responsible for organizing, directing, and overseeing the clinical and procedural functions of the Emergency Department (ED). This leadership role ensures compliance with policies and procedures, maintains optimal staffing and resource levels, manages the departmental budget, and ensures efficient patient care delivery. The Director plays a pivotal role in staff development, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and the advancement of evidence-based clinical practices.

The Director serves as a key member of the leadership team, working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other administrative leaders to align departmental goals with organizational objectives.

They can start as soon as possible.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • They will supervise the Nurse Manager. In total, around 35 full time employees, with an additional 15 PRN staff.
  • The Director works a day shift during the workweek. However, if gaps arise, they are expected to have solutions to staffing. As you can understand, this is a 24/7 department.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring adherence to clinical policies, staffing standards, and patient throughput benchmarks.
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget, including monitoring expenses and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Lead and support staff development, ensuring professional growth and compliance with annual competency requirements.
  • Drive ongoing quality improvement initiatives and ensure a culture of safety for patients and staff.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards and facilitate preparations for inspections or audits.
  • Collaborate with the CNO and administrative team to communicate departmental updates, challenges, and achievements.

Qualifications – Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in North Carolina or a compact state is required.
  • We accept non-compact state nurses if licensed in NC by their start date
  • American Heart Association certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience (Manager level or above) in an Emergency Department setting. Preferred Qualifications – Nice-To-Haves:
  • A Master's Degree (MSN, MHA, or similar) is preferred.
  • Experience in a community hospital Emergency Department setting is a plus.
