Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Design and teach elective and full-credit dance classes from the introductory to the advanced level.
  • Teach a repertory class during the Ensemble period after classes.
  • Design, teach, and choreograph for the after-school dance activity that runs each afternoon.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and support (including some tech) two dance concerts per year.
  • Collaborate with the Theater Director on the winter musical and choreograph for that show.
  • Collaborate with other arts faculty to bring visiting dancers of different genres to the school for performances and to work with classes and Arts Scholars.
  • Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
  • Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising, and within the residential program.
  • Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
  • Advise a small cohort of students.
  • Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
  • Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum.
  • Participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in dance or dance education.
  • Hands-on experience as a dancer.
  • 1-5 years of experience working in dance or teaching dance.
  • Able to work with theater lighting and sound elements including light and sound boards for the dance concerts and performances.
  • Current pedagogical practices may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backward planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning.
  • Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
  • Facility with Mac OS, Microsoft 365, and/or Google apps.
  • Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
