Are you ready to elevate your career? We’re seeking a dynamic Airport Conveyance Systems Manager to oversee the critical operations of our airport conveyance systems.

As a key leader, you’ll:

  • Manage maintenance, renovation, and modernization contracts for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all airport conveyances through regular inspections.
  • Develop and refine specifications and operating procedures to keep our systems running smoothly.
  • Act as a vital liaison with State conveyance regulatory authorities.

Position Details:

This three-year project involves the installation of new elevators, escalators, and moving walkways across the Airport campus, along with the repair and overhaul of 243 elevators, 149 escalators, and 43 moving walkways. The goal is to restore these systems to safe operation and extend their service life.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and assessing campus-wide conveyance systems to plan for maintenance, renovation, or modernization.
  • Identifying effective and efficient vendors for conveyance maintenance, construction, and modernization contracts.
  • Establishing a maintenance schedule that minimizes passenger disruptions.
  • Designing effective communication strategies to mark and identify inoperable equipment.
  • Producing regular reports on the status and condition of conveyance systems for stakeholders.
  • Ensuring this equipment is in safe working order is essential to support Airport operations, meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, and align with SFO's core values, prioritizing safety and security.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education:  Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; and
  2. Experience:  Six (6) years of verifiable experience managing elevator mechanic or conveyance maintenance, operations, or inspection programs using federally mandated standards in a large airport, or complex facility or campus of which three (3) years must have been in a supervisory capacity supervising staff in the field of maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical and electrical machinery and equipment; and
  3. License and Certification:  Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver license prior to employment. Candidates must be insurable under the City’s automobile liability insurance policy. Insurability must be maintained throughout employment.

Education Substitution:

Applicants may fully substitute the required education with additional qualifying experience as a journey-level craft person responsible for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of a variety of vehicles and other machinery and equipment. One year (2000 hours) of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.

Ideal Candidate

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Competent Conveyance (Elevator) Mechanic (CCCM) license
  • Current American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) QEI-1 certification as an elevator inspector
  • Seven years of verifiable work in the Elevator Industry, some of which was as journeyperson Elevator Mechanic
  • Two years of verifiable work as a conveyance inspector
  • Documented completion of a certified apprenticeship program in the Elevator trade
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
